For what position does your current credentials qualify you? Each Head Start agency handles its own staffing and has it’s own requirements, but the following is a good guide. Please check the specific job post for details.

Do you have a bachelor’s or advanced degree in early childhood education or in a field related to early childhood education? You may be qualified to be a:

  • Head Start teacher
  • Head Start teacher aide/assistant (or enrolled in program leading to such a degree)

Do you have an associate degree in early childhood education or in a field related to early childhood education with experience teaching preschool-age children? You may be qualified to be a:

  • Head Start teacher
  • Head Start teacher aide/assistant (or enrolled in program leading to such a degree)

Do you have a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or a certificate from the State of Michigan that meets or exceeds the CDA requirement? You may be qualified to be a:

  • Head Start teacher
  • Early Head Start teacher (CDA for Infant and Toddler Caregivers)
  • Head Start teacher aide/assistant (or be enrolled in a CDA credential program that will be completed within two years)
