Job Description/ Duties:

This position assists the teacher in planning and implementing a program of educational activities for preschool children that encourages age appropriate growth and development in a variety of areas. The person filling this position is expected to complete assignments with a high standard of accuracy, attention to detail, and timely completion of work. The person must be willing to engage in professional development efforts as available to the position and required by their supervisor. This position works under the direction of the Site Leader and classroom teacher.



  • Works together with the teacher as a team to provide direct care of preschoolers, and assist in planning and implementing daily programming for the children
  • Assists in creating and maintaining a safe, inviting and accepting environment for children and their families
  • Models appropriate child handling techniques when interacting with parents and children
  • Assists with the physical safety and emotional security of the children
  • Assists in planning and preparing materials for daily activities
  • Assists in completing individual learning plans and on-going observations
  • Assists in the creation of a clean, safe classroom environment that is conducive to learning and promoting social relationships
  • Actively involved with children during classroom time
  • Assists teacher in duties relating to the supervision of lunch and snack periods
  • In emergency situations, assumes responsibility for classroom operation
  • Maintains confidentiality of information related to home and school environment
  • Maintains a positive and professional working relationship that is sensitive and accepting of differences with staff and families
  • Cooperates in any investigation related to personnel, licensing, accreditation
  • Ability to meet the daily hygiene needs of children



  • Minimum of Associate Degree in Early Childhood Education/Child Development or higher in a related field with experience teaching preschool age children
  • Previous professional experience working with preschool age children
  • Knowledge of Head Start or Head Start Experience Strongly Preferred
